Cheerful Slovenians

By Thomas Berndt

It is a strikingly cheerful Slovenian team that faces tonight's match against Germany. At practice this morning they even had time to joke. Especially a game of tag amused the players. Nothing indicated that within 6 hours the result of the match against Germany would reveal the loser of Group 2 in the main round.

There is just one snag about it: the young Slovenian star player Nadiza Plesko has not recovered from the match against Hungary where she twisted her left foot. During today's practice she only practiced walking and running a little. After practice the Slovenian Doctor Dusan Polimac had the following comments to Plesko's injury:

'She is feeling surprisingly well. The accident happened 72 hours ago and she is already able to run'
However, the back-player will not get ready for any of the main round matches.

'She is our future and I'm not willing to risk her even though we need her very much,' says Doctor Dusan Polimac.

Furthermore, the Slovenians travelled 5 hours by bus yesterday. That might affect us, Anja Freser fears.

'We are a bit more tired than the other teams. It was quite a journey' the 181 centimetre tall player says.
