Swedish coach offers explanation
By Rudi Dalsgaard
It was a serene Thomas Ryde who explained the Swedish inadequacy
after Sweden's speedy exit from Euro 2002.
'The young players took on great responsibility. The more experienced
players failed,' he explained after the match against Austria which
Sweden lost 33-26. Thus he placed part of the blame with among others
the experienced Åsa Eriksson, who has not played well at Euro
2002 and only scored 11 goals in three matches - far below her normal
standard. But all the blame was not put on Åsa Eriksson alone.
'Åsa is under too much pressure - she cannot win on her own,'
Thomas Ryde elaborated.
