Local support for both
Yugoslavia and Romania.
Af Rudi Dalsgaard
Today in Helsinge a group of children could be seen, all dressed
in blue t-shirts and Romanian flags, and with flags painted on their
faces.
'We are 5C from Bjoernehoejskolen', they explain in unison. 'We
are rooting for Yugoslavia and then 5B are rooting for Romania.
But to help each other out a little, both classes are rooting for
both teams'.
The two groups, seated in different sections, make a considerable
amount of noise. 5B have brought a drum, booming down towards the
players and 5C have brought a post-horn, which Rasmus is responsible
for. He does his job well - with round cheeks and eyes wide open.
As a warm-up before Euro 2002 the two classes from Bjoernehoejskolen
have, among other things, played a handball tournament with two
other 5th grades from Ramloese. It went as these things are bound
to: 'Some won and others lost', as the children explain it themselves.
Furthermore they saw the two national teams practice this morning.
But now we won't be taught anything more about handball in school
- only play it a bit in PE', is the last thing the children say
before Austria and Romania run onto the court. The two classes may
have made a difference today, because both Romania and Yugoslavia
won their first matches in Group A.
