Wilbek: Sensible substitutions
By Peter Bang Overby and Claus Thordahl Kraemmergaard
Denmark made a lot of substitutions during the first half of today's
match against the Ukraine. This made Denmark halter a bit. But they
were wise substitutions. This is the verdict from the women's national
team's former coach, Ulrik Wilbek, after the match.
'The substitutions during the first half made the Danish players
lose their rhythm, but it paid off in the end because the star players
had saved their strength for the second half of the match. That
is what you might call a calculated risk', said Ulrik Wilbek.
Optimism before the match against France
The former national team coach, today coaching Viborg HK, is optimistic
about Denmark's chances against France. Although France got off
to a good start with a 25-24 victory against the Netherlands, Ulrik
Wilbek believes that Denmark stands a fair chance at beating France.
He does not, however, expect a well-played match.
'Denmark will not be allowed to play the polished attack they did
today against the Ukraine. Denmark clearly has the best team. France
will do anything to ruin their offence. This is why the most important
thing for Denmark will be a good defence and fast breaks', said
Ulrik Wilbek
