Divided between two teams

By Karina Wulff Harrestrup
Danish Ulla Olesen is guide for Romania while they are participating in the European Championship. That means that she’s there to help them with all kinds of things during the tournament. She’s together with the team all the time – even when Romania is facing Denmark tonight.

“It’s very exciting and I didn’t hesitate at all when I was asked to be a guide. In 1996 I was guide for Hungary and I really liked it”, she says.

“The fact that the team is facing Denmark tonight doesn’t really matter to me. As a guide you feel like a part of the team and I hope that they get as far as possible in the championship”.

Ulla Olesen enjoys being together with the Romanian team.

“Teams from Eastern Europe aren’t very demanding and they’re extremely nice. They gave me a present the other day to show their appreciation of my work. It was a CD with Romanian folk music and another with classic Romanian music”.

As a guide she makes all different kinds of things for the team. She shows them around, order transportation, food and so on.

“The biggest problem was when their number five (Carmen Amariei) had the wrong name on her player shirt. The name was Lungu – her old name. She wasn’t allowed to play with the wrong name so we had to get another shirt very quickly”, says Ulla Olesen
