The Danish fan club makes
Arenaen come alive
By Claus T. Kræmmergård
Every time Denmark plays, the Danish fan club, Guldklubben (the
gold club), is present on the sideline. Surrounded by mugs, pens,
disposable cameras, CDs, lighters and flags, the Danish fans have
set up stall at the entrance to Arenaen in Århus.
Guldklubben takes pride in creating a festive setting for the matches
of Euro 2002 and therefore it strongly encourages the spectators
to dress imaginatively in red and white. If the spectators are enthusiastic,
Guldklubben is convinced that it will rub off on the performance
of the Danish national team.
Guldklubben was created in September 1994. Four times a year Guldklubben
issues a magazine to all its members. The name of the magazine is
Guldklumpen (the gold nugget).
Guldklubben earns money by selling merchandise and it also receives
support from the Danish Handball Federation, DHF and from the sponsor
of the Danish national team, Adidas.
At the moment the club has 400 active members but its aim is to
reach 1000 within the next six months.
