The French national coach
complains about the floor
By Claus T. Kræmmergård
The disputed and much discussed floor at the Euro 2002 can add
another critic to the already great number of critics. At the press
conference after the French opening victory over the Netherlands,
the French national coach, Olivier Krumbholz was very dissatisfied
with the blue and yellow plastic floor used at the Euro 2002.
'Have you ever seen a handball match where ten players just fall',
the frustrated Olivier Krumbholz asked the attending reporters.
The heat in Arenaen meant that the floor was very moist during
the opening matches resulting in the players slipping.
According to Olivier Krumbholz, it would be best to remove the
disputed floor and instead use the wooden floor under the plastic
floor.
The French national coach was not the only one with that opinion.
The Dutch national coach, Bert Bouwer also criticized the playing
conditions after the match.
