Pep talk helped the player
of the day get started
By Peter Bang Overby
As badly as Katrine Fruelund played in the first half, as well
did she play in the second. That is not quite true, however, because
although Katrine Fruelund got off to a bad start, it was far from
as big a change as the excellent performance in the second half.
Coach Jan Pytlick was not cheap with the compliments after the
match. "Katrine plays really well today. She is the player
of the match for us', said Jan Pytlick.
The Viborg-player really took on responsibility in the second half,
when Denmark had to get back on track after a bad first half. With
one goal more energetic than the previous she played a large part
in getting the Danish team in the lead in the second half. After
the match she said:
'I got off to a bad start. It was a real struggle to get back on
top. But I'm happy that I succeeded', said Katrine Fruelund modestly
and revealed the reason for the progress:
'In the half-time break I got a good pep talk from my team mate,
Christina Roslyng. She said to just play freely and go on. And it
helped', said Fruelund, who scored five of her six goals in the
second half.
The Euro 2002 has been one of Katrine Fruelund's best championships.
At yesterday's press conference she explained that the reason for
this is a more relaxed attitude towards the matches.
